The unfinished conversations were subsequently presented as a series of podcasts by the Bangalore International Centre, titled The River Has no Fear of Memories – the title being taken from one of the many songs in his memorable play, Hayavadana : “You cannot engrave on water/Nor wound it with a knife/Which is why the river/ Has no fear of memories…” ![]() The conversations were to be resumed in a fortnight – but that didn’t happen, unhappily, because Girish Karnad died a few days after. That was the pattern set for the first seven days. Recording done for the day, Girish would offer them a drink. Oximeter on finger and oxygen tubes in nose, the interview proceeds apace. Birds have begun to head home, there is the sound of city traffic from below, Girish’s “unmistakable voice” holds sway.
